Get Started
Mentors and mentees are required to complete a profile on the Enginuity Network online platform. Profiles will their major, industry, demographic information, and career history and interests. Mentees will then select the mentor who best matches their current and future professional goals and request to work with that mentor. If the mentor accepts their request, the mentor and mentee can then get in touch via the matching platform. In their first meeting, the mentor and mentee are expected to decide on how they will communicate with one another during the semester, and both parties’ objectives, so that mentors and mentees understand the other’s needs and expectations for the relationship.
The program is designed to be flexible for busy alumni mentors and mentees. Mentors and mentees have complete control over the mentorship relationship and can decide how the relationship will work.
Register and Complete Your Profile Create your account using your UMass email address and build your profile in approximately 15-20 minutes. Share your engineering discipline, career interests, professional experiences, and what you're hoping to gain from mentorship. Don't forget to add a professional photo—profiles with photos receive significantly more engagement.
Search and Discover Mentors Use our intuitive search platform to explore alumni mentors who align with your interests and goals. Filter by engineering discipline, industry, career path, location, and other criteria to find mentors whose experiences match your aspirations. Mentors remain anonymous until they accept your connection request, ensuring mutual interest and commitment.
Request a Connection When you find a mentor whose profile resonates with your goals, submit a connection request with a personalized message explaining why you'd like to connect. Take time to craft a thoughtful introduction—mentors appreciate understanding your specific interests and what you hope to learn from the relationship.
Set Expectations Together Once your connection is accepted, have an initial conversation with your mentor to establish goals, communication preferences, and meeting frequency. Discuss whether you'll meet virtually or in person, and agree on a schedule that works for both parties. Mentors may accept up to three mentees at a time, while mentees can connect with up to two mentors simultaneously.
Engage and Grow Meet regularly with your mentor, come prepared with questions and discussion topics, and actively work toward your established goals. The more you invest in the relationship, the more value you'll receive. We recommend meeting at least three times per semester for meaningful progress.
Share Your Experience We love hearing about your mentorship journey! Share your success stories and feedback with the program team to help us continuously improve and inspire future participants.
